hello everyone. just an open question: i create artnudes and other images to exhibit mainly, and i wonder: does anyone else here exhibit their works, i mean, NOT to sell but to just exhibit and share the love of the captured scenes and photography. i mean, if a foto sells great for you but the main idea is to display your works and interact with the viewers... not as some "artists" who just want to sell. is there anyone else who is as crazy as i am??

if yes, then i'd like to know: how can you afford to frame the prints, travel and etc that is related to showing.

i'm now advertising i seek sponsorship for my upcoming exhibits and wonder if this is okay. if someone gives me an outright donation, i'd like to publicly thank the person, or in the case of someone wanting to support the arts/photography by investing money and getting prints in return, i don't really care... i NeeD the money as framing is very expensive. comments of course welcomed and encouraged. i just finished a show and though i only purchased mats as the gallery had frames for me to use, thank goodness it's a friend who provided me with the mats as i can pay for that over a few months... if not.... :-(

i've been eating a lot of potatoes lately being as poor as a slave in Siberia!!

thanks!!

Tony

You've hit the issue that everyone who exhibits faces. Here are a few things I do to minimize the cost.

- Frame it yourself. I buy frame components and glass and mats and cut and assemble it myself. Far cheaper than buying ready-made frames.

- Find venues with frames. You were talking about a show you did where the gallery provided the frames. Thats not uncommon in a public display gallery rather than a private commercial gallery. Again, I cut the mats myself so it's not too expensive.

- Use the internet. I have no idea how Europe is for art supplies on line. There are lots of places here in the States on line. I have found that there are great places in Canada with quality materials and free or cheap shipping that are much better priced because of the difference between the Canadian and US dollars.

- Reuse your mats, frames, etc. I print to similar sizes and often leave a large border around the print so that it's very easy to re-use the mats from another project / show. Once you're in standard sized mats, reusing the frames, wires, glass, etc are easy.

I know all those suggestions may not apply in Spain - I guess I'd suggest the frame it yourself route and re-use your materials.

Best of luck
Bob

That's why they call them "safety cutters" - no blades near the fingers... Alto's Mat Cutters
