As a switch, I'd be interested to know what types of lenses are people using with their cameras. Indicate your prefered lens of choice, camera model and other lenses in your arsenal. A picture taken with your prefered lens would be a good addition.

I shoot with a Fuji S2 and my primary lens is a Tamron 28-105 F/2.8. My 2nd lens of choice is a Tamron 20-40 F/2.7-3.5.

The first lense I got with the Fuji S2 was the Nikon 28-200, which covered a lot of sins. But it has shortcomings for close focus and aperture.

I already had a 180mm 2.8, so that's still in the aresenal. I added an 85mm f/1.8 and a 60mm Micro, all Nikkor lenses.

When I don't need lens speed or don't need to get closer to the subject, the zoom is just fine. I'll probably acquire something really short at some stage, but my need for extreme wide angle has not been great over the past 10 years or so.

The Micro Nikkor, just in playing around, shows the possibilities of being spooky sharp. The 85 still doesn't get as tight as I'd like sometimes, but it's close. I'm finding that in some instances, I really like using the 180 for portraits.

At the moment, it's just all new exploration of glass for me. Something I haven't done in years. I was tempted to go with some off-brand stuff, but couldn't bring myself to do it yet. Maybe when I need some special-purpose lens that I just can't afford any other way.

BTW, how come this is in the general forum, not techy?

Nikon D-100,Nikon 24-120mm lens, Backup Olympus E-10, 35-140 lens (fixed mount)
Boths zooms handle full legnth to headshots without changing camera position, great for fast studio shooting.
Shooting for models web pages, both cameras produce out of the box shots so the models can resize and post with no PS adjustments. The models need at least 20-25 keepers (out of 100) per set to post.

Nikon D-100, out out the box shot no PS adjustments.

What? There are other lenses besides a 300/2.8 and 200/2.0 Nikkors? That's what I use 99% of the time.

Hi Hackman,

I use F100s. With them I have a 24-70/2.8 EX DF HSM (Sigma), a 70-200/2.8 EX APO HSM, a 100mm f2.8 Nikkor, a 28-80/f4-5.6 Nikkor, a 70-300/f4 Tamron and I also have an old FM-10 manual. It's a piece of bantha fodder but when all else fails, it works. I would much prefer one of the older Nikon bodies that doesn't require batteries at all...much like my still functional Pentax K1000 (the workhorse) that has NEVER failed regardless of the temperature or how far I've dropped it. The F5 is overkill IMO but I might consider one if it had a cappachino maker in it. Oh, one last thought. I never thought I would buy any other glass besides Nikkor but I tried the Sigma lenses courtesy of the local camera shop and they are awesome! They are a bit easier on the pocketbook too. But hey, money is no object.

Good day!

Mike

I like 28-200s. I have two, one is a Sigma and the other is Tamron.

Personally I like the my tamron better. Not sure exactly why, but is the one I use most.

Shot with Elan7, Tamron 28-200 f/3.8-5.6 LD.
