I haven't seen anyone on this forum mention the image cataloging and manipulation software called Picassa Google is offering. If you have a lot of images to track or just want to play with some fairly decent image handling software, check out
Link to Picassa

I love the fact that you can scroll through all the images on your hard drive without ever having to manually select a new directory. The program does take a while to do the initial cataloging though.

Best of all, it's free...

Nude... Did I say nude?... Oops... Ain't no nudes here... But I got you here didn't I?

Anyway, I forgot to mention that Picasa (See I spelled it wright....er, right this time) also has image editing functions. Make no mistake, it's not going to put PhotoShop in jeopardy just yet, but for a lot of minor fixes, it may be just the thing. Easy to use, and did I mention...

It's FREE, GRATIS, NO CHARGE, and it's COOL!

I've had that installed on my computer for some time now and while it's good to show all the photos in thumbnail fashion I can't say I care for the way it groups them...by date. I still go by name or category so it's hard sometimes to find what I'm looking for. I'll probably keep it on for a while longer but may drop it in favor of programs that will generate thumbnails in the manner to which I'm accustomed to finding them.

If memory serves me (Picasa is on the other computer, this one is used ONLY for the internet) there are a number of ways to have your files organized in the folders, you pick the way you like.

Go to View, pick Sort Folder List, and you can select Creation Date, Name, or Recent Changes.

I haven't tried creation date or recent changes... names works for me.

Did you notice the little slider under the thumbnail view which allows you to resize all the thumbnails, thus showing more (or less) images at a time. That's slick...

Now if they would only put a duplicate file finder function (a la ACDSee) in, they would really have a neat piece of software...

That does work...as long as you have named these beforehand. Invariably I just copy/dump the cards to the drive and might rename the folder. I still like going through explorer as I'm used to that.

I believe that the next Windows O/S will be much like Picasa in terms of finding folders/files...relational and access from desktop. Personally I don't think I'll like it.
