Don and Adam asked for images of the home made Beauty Dish that I used in those shots of Lindsay. This was made by the guy I share a studio with. All for about $10. And it is mounted on an old novatron head.

And here is one of the shots that this was used for...

It is pretty straight forward. Giant salad bowl with a hole cut in the bottom the diameter of the head and 2 screws to hold the head to the bowl. The pie plate has 3 z shaped strips of sheet metal that are screwed to the bowl and the pie plate to hold it in place. The inside of the bowl and the back of the pie plate are painted white. That is all there is to it.

Wow. I see it, but how much of a gap is between the pie plate and bowl for the light to come out around the sides of it?

The plate sits about 2 1/2 or 3 inches out from the front of the light head.

I've built a similar set up but I used a Novatron 16" dish and a small piece of sheet metal. They work good.

Thanks Scott. I'm already on it. Good thing I learned sheetmetal work in the Navy.

Looks like you did an awesome job putting this together. I've been telling a few people that a "Chinese Wok" pan might work for this idea too. I am pretty sure that this will work with my Alien Bee 800 as well.
