Great images Michael!
Can you tell me what made you decide to make the change? Have you looked and the new Nikon D2X (around $5k)? I'm in the same boat. I've been Nikon for 20 some years and disappointed with the move to the digital side. I've been looking at the D2x, and Canon 20D and 5D.

Here's a couple for the D2X

With talk of the D200 it seems like you might be jumping the gun, Nikon glass and all. http://www.kenrockwell.com/ has written about the d200 and 5d.

Mike,

Go with the 20D. I have shot with Nikon's and Olympus. When the 10D hit the market I switched to Canon and haven't looked back. I now have 2 20D's. I do a lot of interior shooting for Batson-Cook Company. I shot a heart catheter operating roon with my 10D and then had it enlarged 6ft x 8ft for my client so they could display at a trade show with no problem. When I get the time I am going to sit down and post some of my images. Seem like there isn't enough time in the year.

I'm not a technical photographer. not at all. For me, a camera is simply a tool which allows me to record the image I see either in my head or in front of me. I went to Canon in the mid 70's from Topcon. Back then I used Topcon because they were the only 35mm camera maker who offered a 300mm f2.8 lens. After shooting film since about 1952, when I finally made the jump to digital lmost two years ago, I went to the Canon 10d. At the time it was the most logical choice for me, considering how and what I shoot. Aftr going to the 10d I never once looked back at film. There's no doubt that the 20d is an improvement, but for the ime being Im hapy with the 10d. And now its a hell of a lot cheaper!

Whichever Canon you decide on, I know you'll be pleased. For my own next upgrade, I'm waiting until I win the lottery to go to the mark II!

Unless you need a landscape camera, full frame sensor, I would go with the 20D and glass. It's all good.

Good question..

The 20D is a fine camera,... and costa less than half of the 5D (which will begin shipping the first week in October)..

However,..I'd suggest picking up a 5D simply because it is a finer camera... The higher ISO noise is better than any other camera on the market today, including the 1DsMkII..that I do know.

The background blur, which makes for wonderful glamour photography images is better than using a 1.6 format camera,...much like what you are used to using with your 1.5 format Nikon system..

The 5D allows iso 50 compared to the 20D's iso 100 at it's lowest level, and there are several shooting modes that one can set the 5D to for optimal shooting situations, much like the old days when we changed film from velvia to NHG to Provia......that sort of thing.. you can't do that with the 20D.. In addition to that,..the rear LCD is a lot larger than that of the current 20D's rear LCD screen..

BTW,....check out this site that Canon just introduced...it's all about their different CMOS sensors.. It's very clear and easy to understand......worth book marking! http://web.canon.jp/Imaging/cmos/index-e.html

Hope that helps!

JP
