Gee Chip, I thought I was going to get flamed here tonight! And for Sam to agree...I don't know what to say.

I never dreamed I would ever have a camera that would focus on it's own for me or make decisons on what f stop and shutter speed would be used. But you know what, I found out that my images are sharper than ever and Elements 3 fixes most color/exposure mistakes.

I agree totally that film prints are wonderful when all the steps to that point are done properly. I printed 6x7 negatives to satisfy my anal issue with grain. They were up to 11x14 and it took a lot of effort and time to get it to look right for me. Then, I needed to spot the print for dust. I gave a lot of 11x14 prints to models.

Now, about 90% of my keeper images are on the web for my use and emailed for the model. I still print a few 11x14 borderless prints on my trusty Epson Stylus Photo 1280 and on heavy matte paper, in the presentation folder, I have never found anyone that can tell the difference from my film prints. And the spot problem is history. (I did have dust for a while on my sensor but found out an $8.00 bulb blower took care of that issue).

Chip and Sam, it is a pleasure to share experiences with 2 gentlemen that must love photography as much as I have for the past 35 years.

Regards,

Jim

I'm a better photographer that poker player!

That Microtek sounds pretty interesting, too... Yep the $2k pricetag is a holdup for me for the others, too at this point. Right now I'm scanning from an Epson Perfection 2450 Photo, and I'm just not happy overall with the scans right now, and how much work I gotta put into 'em.

If you hear of any reviews about that Microtek ScanMaker, please send 'em my way!

I guess you weren't expecting that answer, were you?

My pleasure too Jim! And if you're ever in my neck of the woods or I in yours, maybe you can teach me how to shoot good pictures like the ones in your portfolio!

Tenessee is a great state and I will make it there eventually. Don't think I want to be near a chain gang...they look like a cast from a horror movie.

Your work is fine and I think when you have 35 years under your belt you will be hell of a lot further along the learning curve than me. -Jim

Hey Sam. After using several different brands of film and flat bed scanners, including a Microtek at work, I have one thing to say about Microtek's ability to scan film wich is AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say that it is a pain in the butt to get a good scan out of it. Personally, I would recommend a Nikon Coolscan or an Agfa. I loved the Agfa, which has what I call a "multi-unit" which translated means that it's a flatbed and a film scanner with excellent results. I think you got the hint.

Hey Chip, or as I call Ciba/Ilfochromes - a P40P print, after hand processing the chromes (gotta hate the fumes.)

Hey Isaiah, thanks for that info. I tend to like Agfa's stuff anyway, so I'll be sure to look into them, too (I've already been considering the Nikon for a long time ).

Thanks for the help!
