Hi Everyone, I haven't been around much lately. Just checking in a little here and there. Been busy shooting seniors and haven't shot much glamour lately.

I'm looking to buy a new lense for portrait work in September. I have a Canon 10D. I'm looking at maybe the 24-70 2.8L. Does anybody have this lense? What do you think of it?

I'm also considering the new one that Canon just announced Monday. It's a 24-105 L IS.

For you Canon users, what are your thoughts on this? What is your favorite portrait lense?

Hey Cinn,

I was recently asking a similar question and most people here seem to be happy with the Tamron 28-75 2.8 lens. At under $400, it seems like the most bang for the buck. The L glass is nice but much more pricey. What are you shooting with now?

Hi Patrick,
Right now I've been bouncing back and fourth between the Sigma 24-70 and the Canon 24-85. But I want to take things to the next level of sharpness. I'm just really not getting the sharpness in the eyes that I want.

I also think I may need to send my camera in to have it serviced. It has hit the concrete a couple of time. Thank goodness for the metal body.

I'm listening to all options, but probably will end up with a zoom. I don't have a lot of moving around room in my studio so I zoom makes things easier.

I use the Sigma 70-200 2.8 for most of my portrait work. It gives me great compression, comfortable working distance, etc. Here's one of Holley:

For studio lighting portrait work,...I couldn't think of a better lens than the new 24-105mm L f4 IS lens.. I can't wait to see some side by side shots between that and the 24-70 L..

As mentioed below, I like the Tamron 28-75 2.8 Di lens, cheap and sharp. Many people using it to replace the Canon 24-70 cause of close quality and the obvious price difference.

HOWEVER,,,, if focal length is an issue, I would wait to see some reports on the new Canon 24-105 IS. Should be pretty sweet, but I honestly havn't played with one yet.

Good to see you around again. I like the photo, just one thing though... hate the hat. It's a geography thing.

I don't know why he wanted to wear that hat. We're from Missouri! Who knows what goes on in an 18 yr olds head. Maybe he just chose it because it matches his shirt.
