I've got the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 L It's a very nice lens but it is heavy. If your going to do a full day of shooting your arms will feel it.

If you do studio work you may want to look at the new lens. You don't need to go to 2.8 for studio work and the sweet spot is probably around f/8 or f/11. It will also be much lighter. It really depends on what you need it for.

I rarely take it off my camera but when it does come of I use the Canon 100mm f/2.

I am sure the 24-70 L will be discontinued. Why, because I bought it. If you want to know when the next new camera is coming out find out when I bought the latest camera and something better and cheaper will be released the next week.

I went with the 24-70 because of the faster speed, controlling DOF and low light. While researching the lens I found no one that owned the lens to be unhappy with it (I guess if you pay that price, you wouldn't admit to be wrong). I bought a Canon partly because of lens choices. In the future I am going to try to stay with L glass, because of sharpness and durability.

For portrait work I have used the 50 mm 1.4 and 85 mm 1.8 both and they compliment each other nicely.

Right now I've been bouncing back and fourth between the Sigma 24-70 and the Canon 24-85. But I want to take things to the next level of sharpness. I'm just really not getting the sharpness in the eyes that I want.

I also think I may need to send my camera in to have it serviced. It has hit the concrete a couple of time. Thank goodness for the metal body.

It may be in your camera and not the lenses you use....I've heard more problems with the Canon 10D not being as sharp as it should and most have to correct the sharpness in post production.... I've found this to be true in my case using the 10D.....

I have had my 24-70 with 3 or 4 bodies and it is a fantastic piece of Glass, nearly ever shot in my Portfolio (good or bad) was taken with it...

Well, I shoot with an 85mm in the studio a lot on a 35mm body (FF), but on a 10D, if you are seriously looking for a step up in optical quality, you may want to consider the 50mm f/1.4

That lens is extremely sharp for a non-L and worth every cent of the $300 or so dollars they go for... just my 2 cents from one Canon shooter to another.

I have been using a Tokina 28-80 f2.8 on my 10D since I started using it. It's a compromise because it isn't wide enough or it isn't long enough, but it suits most situations. I have a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 that I got when I was still shooting film, but I seldom use it on the 10D because I can't get far enough away from the subject. In your studio, you would not be able to use that focal length. If I had a big studio, I would probably use the 70-200 a lot more. I sometimes use my 28-105 f3.5-4.5 because I like the extra bit of focal length. I have often thought that I would like to get a 28-105 f2.8 lens for my primary lens, but have never done so. I think that a lens of that focal length range would work well in and out of your studio. On the other hand, I have long intended to get one of the cheap 50mm f1.8 lenses. You might try setting your zoom to 50mm and move around your studio to see how it would work. I have forgotten whether you have other lenses, but your husband would probably like a longer focal length lens, like 70-200 for sports and you would probably like a shorter focal length, like 28-105 for studio and portrait work. I don't currently have any image stabilizer lenses, but I would normally want that on the longer focal length lenses.

Of course, this completely ignores the wide angle end of things, but I ave never been very happy with the wide angle lens choices for the 10D.
