Incidentally, while I'm iffy on the Alien Bee stands - they're okay but they're not great - I do agree on the Calumet stuff. I have some and it's great.

Also, please note that AB will sell you a mounting ring that will mate right to other people's softboxes. That's what I used for mine. It wasn't cheap (IIRC it's around thirty bucks) but it allows you to mount pretty much any standard softbox on an AB flash.

I agree, get the AB Speed Ring, but buy a Photoflex Softbox, don't get the AB softboxes, they'll shoot your eye out!

mmmmm I use an AB softbox 30x40 I havent had any problems with it yet....the shoot your eye out thing...worries me!!

Before bying my Bees a couple of years ago, I did a ton of reading info posted on various Forums. I remember a thread talking about the problems of using the AB Softbox and a guy spoke of the time he was putting his AB softbox together and a rod slipped or something, striking his glasses. He then stated that he did not feel the advantages of saving a few buck on the AB Softbox was worth losing an eye over...

be carful or wear protective goggles, pirate eye patches are only cool ONE DAY a year...

Thanks Steve...yes putting it together took some getting used too....but I rarely have to take it apart....I thought you meant the rod might come flying out at model!!! Whew!!!
