Jason,
Do you know any place where I can pick one of these up for, say...$100?

I was going to buy a 20D a couple of weeks ago but put it off because I heard the 5D was going to be $1500. I don't think I can swing the $3200 for the 5D, but it sure looks like a nice camera.

For the most part, 20d owners (JIMMYD PAY ATTENTION) should not be cursing themselves out for having a 20d or just purchasing a 20d right now for what else is out there.

The 5d is a little bit larger, full frame, high megapixels and all the other jazz listed there, but its hard to fathom some jobs you can't do with a 20d right now. If the price were $1,000 lower then ok maybe you could kick yourself. But right now, I have to say for what your getting on the 5d and the price difference thats about what you would expect to be paying. Full frame could not be found for under $5,000 until now. And your looking at 12.8 megapixels now, these are things that cost a premium. But the 20d does the job.

And, a side note. Cause everyone is asking me this question, I am not upset by this price as a Photographer. IE: Wedding photographers do not like it when you show up at a wedding and some uncle or somebody has the exact camera equipment as you or better. You have trouble saying why you as the hired photographer can demand a price when "Uncle bob has the same thing and can take the same picture."

Now of course, as a photographer, we all know that we know something more then Uncle Bob and even the same equipment could not yield the same image to them.... however, these are usually wasted breath on the frugal minded. But with this camera, your pointing towards the old days of photography. Pro's can now once again be categorized by the equipment they have. Uncle Bob wouldn't shoot a wedding with a Hassy. The old "the pro gives you a better image" was without question back then cause pro's have "all those fancy things".

$3200 is a little more then the average enthusiast or amateur would be willing to spend on a body with 20d's out there. And for all those who have 20d's and other camera which will fall under the same trend, your camera is going to hold some more value. How many times have photographers tried to put a price on their equipment that they bought for $2500 and are trying to sell for $1,000 and they can't cause something came out better for $1300?

So, with this higher pricing, as a photographer....there are upsides. And honestly it was getting to the point that one would expect in a few years a camera like a 1ds Mk II to be priced at what, $3,000? Cause of cameras like 20d's being able to do the job and at an affordable price. Sadly, I think it will be the all time home run winner of affordable digital SLR that can do almost anything.

And yeah, some people still have them, and some people can still swing a rebate on them and great prices.

HOWEVER..... I would suggest calling (800) 321-4726 ....ask for Juan, mention GarageGlamour and Rolando Gomez....he will give you the best price you can get anywhere in .... the world

Has the 20D been discontinued? It's still listed in Canon's lineup and there really is no direct replacement for it in these new releases. I hope to buy one sometime later this year. If they replace it with a camera in the same price range, fine, but I do NOT consider the 5D a reasonable upgrade for advanced amateurs from the Rebel or the Rebel XT.

Not "officially" discontinued, but production has been decreased significantly which means you will not see 20d's made at all in the near future. My "hunch" is that come the next big photo show (not expo, but you all know the one after it) there will be an introduction of another model in this range. My "guess" is a Rebel named camera on steroids. Effecitvely making the Rebels the amateur-prosumer range of the SLR line.

But this is the time for Canon to push heavy on the MarkIIn and the 5d, you will of course see a change in the price 1ds Mark II around the corner.

Generally Canon gives each SLR 18 months of flight time so to speak, keeping that in mind, the 20d and the 20da for that matter, they are on final approach.

Ive bought the D30 for $3000. 3.2 pixels The 5D dosent sound all that bad. We just got spoiled for the $1300 D60s and 10ds and now on the 20D. I was able to trade up each time for only a couple hundred dollas. The $2500 jump is little harder to justify at this time for a few more pixels. I'll wait and see this time.

I believe the 20D will remain for the next 6 or so months..before a marginal upgrade..

They have a new rebel camera coming out now.. very low end stuff...
