If you had a chance to own a Ferrari instead of a mustang, what would you do?
They both take you where you have to go, they are both sports cars, they both go fast. The cheaper one gets the job done but the most expensive one has more style, speed reliability and durability.

I have been a PC user and software engineer since, well, before the PC was introduced. My first job while I was in college was writing accounting software for vegetable growers and packers on the IBM 5110 machine. 64K bytes of RAM, ROM Basic and single sided 8" floppies that held a whopping 160K bytes of data. We wrote full packages with general ledger, AR, AP, billing and payroll all on that machine. I have used and coded for Windows since version 1 (which I still have a copy of on 5 1/4" floppies!).

I supported Windows and Microsoft since then, but in February bought my first Mac, a 20" iMac. I now also own a 15" Powerbook and am never going back to the Windows platform. For me personally, the features and stability are outstanding. The hardware does cost more, but I'm willing to pay for the form and function the Mac has.

I won't bash either platform. They both work. For me however, the Mac is where it's at!

Did they say whether that was due to software or the hardware? I know, for instance, that it is harder for me to find hot keys and perform certain tasks is office on the MAC than it is on the PC. However, when I use Photoshop, it's the same on both platforms. I tend to feel that Microsoft doesn't support the MAC platform as well as the PC for obvious reasons that if everyone bought a MAC, Microsoft would loose major market share.

They just are.

That being said, I use a PC. The PC is now close enough that I'm no longer willing to spend the money for a new mac every two years, but I will buy a new PC every two years.

I used Mac from 1987 until about 2001, and then I just could not see that it was worth the money for the Mac, becasue the software for the PC was cheaper and just as good in most cases.

I hate this debate. Let's face it. The only computer that will actually make a significant difference in business, photography or whatever is the one between your ears.

But as you get older, that one seems to go down hill faster than the others. I use to run at 20ghz and now at only 1.5 ghz and declining.
Cheers,

Well I'm just the opposite. I find the graphics superior on the Window's side. It's a very subjective subject subjectively speaking.

I also like having a much more powerful mouse which allows many more options and thus greater productivity.

cheers,
rfs

Photoshop is so close that it should be the same given equal power to the hardware.

One speed advantage is the more powerful mouse on the Window's side with two mouse buttons rather than one and on most modern mice a roller. When you add in the extra power attached to the right click menus, roller, etc., then added speed can be obtained by a skilled user.
Cheers,
rfs

I don't think it is subjective. PC's have a harder time with postscript processing, they are slower when it comes to graphics (except for some 3D) and color management is way better on a Mac. I'm just not willing to pay for it.

How is the mouse more powerful on a PC vs. Mac?
