Yes, I've been the area since 1973.

But I'm surprised you were still using a Tandy computer in the early 90's. I'm sure it would not have been the Model 1, however. Which model were you using?

I really don't know. I knew less about puters then than I do now. All I remember is most thought I was using a Tandy 1000 but could never find a model number on it. It was a hand-me-down from my brother who had used it in college previously. I think that was the problem with the printer....old machine...newer printer...LOL. Yes, the Tandy 1000 was one of the "near" clones, but not quite 100% IBM compatible and so it lost out to the likes of Compaq, etc.

it's an interesting point. Businesses would rather buy pc's because they have always bought pcs because "there is more software for the pc) or "macs are expensive" but what they don't realize is, the hundreds of thousands they spend on an it department could be whittled down to like 2 guys, and most of their time would be spent playing video games killing time until they needed to do security updates and software upgrades, which would only take a few minutes per computer. I hear that alot, but I'm not sure its a valid point. Since such a huge percentage of the computers in business are Window's based, naturally the hackers, virus terrorists, etc focus 99% of their attention on Windows. But if MAC had that huge of a market, there would probably be just as many problems.

But there was an interesting test done a few years ago by a business that I recall. They put users on both Windows and Macs using spreadsheet software and word processing software and assigned each group the same tasks. The Windows users were able to complete the same tasks about 25% faster than the Mac users. This seemed to shock some of the Mac users, so they asked for tests of other software. If I recall they went ahead to test a basic accounting package on each system. Here the Windows users performed about 20% faster.

Go, go figure!

The first thing that got me turned off with PC was it's ability to save to an empty disk. Circa windows 3.1???
There is a big annoying problem between both platforms is the gamma on the display.
Work I do on any of my machines look great. Then I run down the street to look at what I did on my website or posting anywhere. and they look dark, flat and just wrong. I have yet figured out how to solve this problem.

Sometimes I try to compensate on my machine then it really gets out of wack.
I printed a bunch of pictures of Sarah, she was surprised at how the photos looked. I wasn't, guess she didn't like how they looked on the web.
I think a new video card may help, but that's an expensive test.

Hopefully with all this talent in here some one can say....all you have to do is....
and this problem can go to bed .

I would have to question the validity of such a test. I used both Windows and Mac OS for both types of tasks and there is no difference in my productivity. Now if the business took Mac people who were most likely using Macs in the graphics department and asked them to work a spreadsheet I can see where those figues would come from. It's not the OS. It's not the user. It's the expertise that the user has aquired that is being tested.

In the OS wars I haven't seen many tests that have been conducted or interpreted correctly on both sides. The tests are usually performed to prove a predetermined point/result.

There would be a lot more not as many simply because there are not as many exploits. I used to belong to a Mac User Groups a few years ago. A great majority of the membership would not believe that I could hack their computer. Their false sense of security made them believe they new more than a Mac programmer. I wrote a little program, disguised it as an image file, and when they openned it it popped up a window that named a couple files that were in their computer and stated that I could have deleted them. Boy did I piss off a bunch of them.

Well there were a few better games than Pong on the TRS80. I used to enjoy the Scott Adams text Adventures.

Often times this is stated with all seriousness and with no smiley face to lighten what, in my opinion, is a slap in the face. Most of us are quite happy with the computer's we have. Most of us get excellent results from our computer's. Why can't we just leave it at that?

Very good point. Macs are my choice but I don't preach. I have several colleagues that do though. I had a meeting with one at Starbucks. By chance a guy at a nearby table overheard us and was interested in my programming services. He asked me for a ballpark figure ($7000) and was cool with it. My buddy started dogging him about his "Windoze Pee Cee". The guy got up and left and would not return MY follow up calls. Computer bashing can have a price!
