Is this a good lens? Keep in mind I am just a punter and am looking to spend a couple hundred bucks. I just need a bit more zoom then my 28-105.

It is an old lens I believe. I won't put my life on it, but I'd say it is an average one. Similar to the Canon 70-300 that you can currently get for $200 or so. The 70-300 is good, but the 200-300 range is its weak area.

I would suggest you get a prime lens like the 85mm f/1.8 . Just my opinion.

I'll second that..

Yep,... those zoooooms are only "so so" good.. the 85mm f1.8,...is "very very" good..

zooms are good for coverage,...primes are good for pictures.. My zooms stay in the bag for the most part..
