About 10 or 15 years ago, maybe more, there was a company making a simple device to use with 2X2 or 2X3 lumber or round closet poles to support backdrops, flats, etc. Basically it was a metal box or cylinder open at one end with a compression spring inside. You placed it over the end of a pole and the spring held it tightly in place against the ceiling. Peter Gowland shows them in use in some of his books. I was wondering if they were still in business/available? A Google search on Timber Toppers turned up with lots of clubs for tall folks, but nothing on the product.

a Mole-Richardson item. Since they continue to make Hollywood movie equipment, I suspect that it is still available. (Never had occasion to buy any myself, but do remember the item.)

Try their website or a local dealer, if you have one. (No URL in my equipment resource folder.)
