For those interested in video, the same day i purchased my 20D, I also went down to Samy's (in Venice, not LA) and purchased Sony's HVR-Z1 Pro HDV Camcorder (1080 High Definition). Now, I guess both my Sony DVCams--PD150 and VX200--are doorstop material along with my 20D. Looking forward to shooting some Hi-Def with it.

What did you shoot that little "BTS of a photo shoot" video of your's with Chung? Maybe you should hire me and my gear to come to NYC and shoot your next one for ya?

Product Description: The HVR-Z1 is unique in its ability to record HDV and DVCAM images at 60i, 50i, 30, 25 or 24 frames per second; in either SD or HD. Switchable 60/50 capability is an advantage for anyone who needs to satisfy clients in both 60i/50i and NTSC/PAL HD and SD applications. The HVR-Z1 has over 40 additional benefits (compared with consumer version HDV-FX1) for professional users! The HVR-Z1 offers users an affordable migration path from Standard Definition whilst retaining the qualities of the popular DVCAM range such as ease of use and i-LINK (IEEE1394) connectivity

Throw in a little bit of a real time editing software like a Canopos, Avid, Matrox, or Pinnacle and vwallah, JimmyD's Hollywood takes shape

Congrats, nice little camera you have there

dude, i'm light years ahead of you. i've been editing on avid systems since the very early 1990s (Actually, my intro to digital non-linear was around 91' or 92' on a D-Vision system). I've also cut on Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premie, that Sony system (I forget what it's called) and Media 100. I bought my own Avid Media Composer in like '97 or '98. I also recently put together an Avid system on a PC. I don't need a canopus box cuz the HVR-Z1 down-converts thru firewire or composite or component. my partners does EFx on a bunch of different softwares including maya, 3-d max (?), and others, plus we have full sound studio capability. I've shot just about everything camera-wise: mini-DV, DV, DVCAM, analog BetaSP, DigitalBeta, HD w/ Sony Varicam. The HVR-Z1 gives me in-house HD capability for smaller projects that still need to meet broadcast requirements. but you're right, with all the post-stuff, I'm my own little hollywood. now, if only i had that canon 1ds MkII the whole world could be mine! ...In my best Willow voice, "..you ARE great"

Well done Mr. D. We can only hope that the 1ds comes down to something reasonable in the next few years and that Canon doesn't keep the price tag high like they did on the original 1ds. Best of luck with all ends of the media you got going there now as well as your ticket for the next Gov. of cahl-E-forn-ya

You'll like HD Jimmy but watch your focus. I took one of the new Sony 700's to Argentina a while back and fell in love with it. DOF can be measured in millimeteres with the iris open. It takes a little getting use to. Also keep your lens clean. Any little speck will show up. The price is a little scary though. $120,000 for a camera! Ouch!!

I follow ya! L cuts, razor tools, split edits, MOS, sound under, loops, etc. No greek speak in your post I've been shooting and editing video commercially for about 10 years in marketing, training, internal communications, etc. Mostly SP, DBeta, DV, mini-DV on Avid, Premiere, Discrete, and Velocity/Q.

Now Jimmy... I do have the MkII and a 1Ds. So between us we CAN rule the world!!! Is a 50/50 split good? Should I have my agent call your agent and say, "Lets do lunch sometime".

i've shot with that camera. it defintitely has it's little idiosynchrasies (sp?) and the menus ain't exactly user-friendly. sweet images tho.

one time shooting with it, the producer was soiling his pants cuz most of what we shot was hand-held and he thought i was too reckless with that $120,000 in my hands. "hey, that's what insurance is for!" i told him. but i guess he kept thinking about the deductible he'd still have to pay if i dropped the camera from places like atop a 12 foot ladder over a swimming pool.
