Before anyone comments, yes, this must by my month for tech issues.... but I'm getting to them one by one. Later tonite I'm going to tackle networking.

OK, so I got a D2X and am really surprised/shocked/dismayed by how out-of-focus it is. In a side by side test with my D70 (same lenses, same setups, same f-stops) the difference is quite noticable and very unacceptable. I saw a post on a pro forum asking about this, and saying that they had seen it posted elsewhere, and everyone had returned their cameras. I had not heard of this, has anyone here heard of such a problem? THis is so bad I have to believe its a manufacturing defect, no company in their right mind would release this like this. Before you Canon folks started to snicker, I've heard similar complaints from 10D and 20D users who had their cameras serviced to fix it, although I don't think it was this bad.

Regards,

I have been extremely happy with mine, but will run some tests with same lens to see & get back to you.

Andy,

Read a whole slew of stuff on dpreview right after the camera came out regarding issues like this if your camera was part of a certain early manufacturing run.

There were serial numbers to watch out for, if I recall.

you might try searching the forums over there.

Andy try this forum http://www.s2pro.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=71 There are many D2Xers on there that may be able to answer your question. Initial quality vareid with the first string of these.

Also, this is one from Nikonians.org...not sure if you've already seen this but..

Hope any of that helps.

Thanks for the tip. I had been looking at DP review, but did not see all those threads until you pointed it out. BUT, I could not find anything with serial numbers. Anyway, someone just PM'd me another group link with a likely answer, which I did try and which does seem to work (at least when photographing sleeping dogs under my desk). http://www.nikonians.org/dcforum/DCForumID71/4792.html

So thanks to you all. Now if I could just get the FW to work....

Andy,

I would exchange it for a new D2X.

I've had similar issues with a Canon setup. I had to switch out my lens 3 times before I got one that worked.
