Just an odd question as I have nothing to compare to. About how many images are you shooting per clothing change with a model working indoors w/studio lighting. More curiosity than anything as I generally just shoot until I have the shot and then a bit extra if we're not pressed for time.

Thanks.

That's pretty close to what I do, as well, though the "a bit extra" usually equates to a multiple of 51 images. See, I shoot RAW on a Nikon D100... about 9MB per image, so I get 51 images on a 512MB CF card.

By the time I shoot 51 images of a 'look', I've either got it and I'm ready to go on to something else, or I've got it and I really wanna keep going. Either way, it's usually time for a little break at that point, anyway.

I shoot from 20 to 25 images. That assumes I know what I'm trying to get, which I usually do. Now I might change the props, but keep the outfit, then shoot 25 more. That was the shot frequency for my recent frames experiments:

Cheers,
rfs

Shoot until you've got the shot you were going for. If it takes 4 rolls of slide film or 2 gigs of flash card so be it. Over time though, I have found that I'm getting the shot I want in less than 20. That used to be 72 shots a decade ago, so I guess I'm improving.

I shoot anywhere from 5-10 to over 50. It all depends on the model and situation, so I don't really have a common number. If I have a very specific image, and its mostly static and I direct the model into a pose, I may only take 5 or 10 images with slight variations.

On those shoots where there is a lot going on, like the model is very fluid and throws me a good pose every second, or with a wind machine adding motion to a dress or hair, and/or there are multiple models in the shot, I may take as many as say 50 images.

So it really depends.

My background was in the commercial print arena, shooting 6x7 and 4x5 formats and old habits are hard to break. So in any one given set up, even though I'm now shooting digital, I still usually shoot no more than 12 (one film roll) and sometimes just one if I know I nailed it.
