Scams...

Hello peoples. I recently inquired on a trade for a Nikon E8700 for a D70 kit and this is the response I got. It sounded fishy to me, so I wanted to see what my great peers here had to say about it.

Good Afternoon:

Yes, we would have potential interest in this equipment. In order to make
an offer to you we will need to inspect and evaluate the equipment. If you
are interested in proceeding, please ship the equipment to the address
listed below. We will then evaluate the equipment and contact you with our
offer. Please enclose with your equipment an item by item list with serial
numbers (where applicable) and note if you wish to offer the equipment for
cash sale or as trade in toward any other equipment.

Regards,

Ed Dertinger

I can't speak to that particular offer but I would be generally hesitant to just send off my stuff to an unknown buyer.

Give KEH Camera a try. They have a good reputation. I think you do ultimately have to send them your gear for evaluation but they'll give give you an estimate first. When you trade in gear, you don't get much out of it. Be prepared for a disappointing offer.

I have done business with Cameta before on at least 3 occasions. I have found them to be completely fair and upfront. No problems.

Yep, that was Marty. She tried KEH and said they lost her camera bag. That's the only time I've heard about KEH screwing somebody.

I'm not pushing KEH, frankly, I'd go with eBay. But if I was looking for a trade, I'd try them first.

I have also used Cameta on several occasions, they were completely on the up and up with me.

Cameta has a HUGE positive eBay rating, if that means anything. One of their biggest power sellers or whatever they call them, I think.
