thphoto suggested the rebel XT so i began researching and the 20D and 350D (rebel XT) seem VERY similar besides the 20 being esier to use for fast changes of settings and things. I need a camera i can experiemtn with and shoot everything from my friends to a wedding.

my main interest right now is pricing. Will only need a kit lens and i have a few othr canon.

so here it is... 20D versus 350D??

thanks for your responses

First, I'm uding a 300d, regular digital rebel. I've handled 10d's and 20d's that were friend's or in stores. The specs on the 350d and the 20d are so close it's almost a wash. I think the biggest feature differences is iso3200 (which I have on my 300d through hacked russian firmware) on the 20d. If I were you it would come down to longevity. The 350d is plastic, the 20d magnesium alloy. Also the 20d is rated for many more shutter actuations. Do you plan on upgrading again in less than two years? If so I'd go with the Rebel XT. Do you plan on taking more than 15,000 images a year? If so, 20d. You can use the 20d harder for a longer period of time, but the XT allows for a cheap and faster upgrade cycle at least initially.

GREAT way to look at it. I plan to step up shooting immediately but not sure how much. and as i become more serious i will have more time to save for a good upgrade (20D) so maybe the XT is perfect for now... since i can get it much sooner, and need it for classes starting in august!

thanks for feedback on the topic.

buy just the body, if you want the kit lens - I will sell you mine for $50.

Once I picked up a 50mm 1.8

and a 70-200 2.8L, I still haven't come across a reason to use the kit lens

all the pic's in my portfolio are shoot with the 2 lenses above and the rebel xt. At the moment my rebel XT and my 70-200 lens are at canon, hopefully being repaired from my incident at the beach last week. If the XT is considered a total loss by canon then I will probably pick up the 20D because I am taking a hell of alot more photos then I anticipated.

depending on what kind of deal i find i might take you up on the kit lens to start me off. i think i read that.. wave came out of nowhere? and no one warned you??? sorry to hear about that. but thanks for the adice, im going to go with the XT. subconciously i didnt want it because of the unprofessional silver body and i was having trouble finding the black body... am i crazy?

NP...Hope you when you decide you'll be sharing the images
kind of anxious to get my new camera..I've been shooting with a fuji S20 pro.
the camera is easy to use and I get decent images...but the intregal lens is just so limiting.
Don.

Trust me, you'd be much happier with the 20D.. the new Rebel / 350 XT is such a small camera, that you would get tired of pretty quickly...(unless you were a very small person..)..
