I need a wider lens for various activities. Right now I have a 50mm f1.8 Canon lens, which I love, but which isn't wide enough for some of the things I want to do. Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced (not necessarily "cheap," but I don't have a huge budget here) Canon EOS compatible lens for me? I'd prefer a fairly fast lens - I would go so far as to say that speed is a *little* more important than image quality since a lot of this lens' use will be in lighting environments that aren't that good anyway. Something in the 35mm range (Which would convert it into just over 50mm equivalent with my camera's crop factor) would be good. I'd be grateful for any advice.

I use a sigma 28-80 for most things. that's about a 35 or 37mm equivalent and openjs to 2.8. It seems to work pretty well for what I do. I think it was around $175.
