I have a Nikon D100 that I absolutely love and it will be taken away from me when my dead, lifeless fingers are pried from around it, or at least until I win the lottery and can afford a D2X. This body has served me very well ever since I bought it in mid 2003 and it has give me some fantastic photos.

As my needs have become more demanding I have modified the way I do things and I find myself considering going off in another direction with regards to the flash cards I use. I am currently using the SanDisk standard flash cards and I have no idea what the read/write speed of these cards is but it isn't quick I can assure all of you.

I have been told that in order to use the high speed read/write flash cards a digital body has to be compatible with the controller in the cards or no speed advantage will be gained.

Can anyone tell me if my Nikon D100 body is compatible with the faster flash cards? I think I have seen them in speeds all the way up to either 32x or even 64x and while I do not necessarily need that kind of speed (nor can I afford the cost of those cards) a modest boost in card speed to say 8x or 16x will suit me just fine.

Thanks to all for the assist.

You think you like your D100 now try putting a SanDisk Ultra II or an Extreme in it. I don't know any of the technical stuff but I know that they fly in comparison with standard cards. I shoot raw on the D100 and on my copy that means only three shots before the buffer fills up. With the faster cards the buffer fills just as quickly but at least I'm ready to shoot a lot sooner with the faster cards... Mine are all 1 gig

regards

the buffer in your D100 can only go so fast, eventually the card will be looking to write faster then your camera can pump out the images and albeit it remote you could lose some images.

Anything more then a 60x card would be superfulous (spelling?), I would say go with some of the Lexar 40X they got out there right now, that was the "pro" in the heyday of your D100 and should work quite well with the camera.

quite reasonably priced and effecient for Nikon shooters.

image shot on film .... ah, remember the days you were so happy to scan shots from a disposable camera?
