Has anyone ever ordered an older copy of Photoshop, like version 7, from e-bay and then upgraded the product?

I have seen a few of these on e-bay from people with good feedback so I am just wondering if this actually works.

Thanks

I have done the reverse - sold the last version and explicitly mentioned in my ad that it was upgradable.

There are three things to make damn sure of:

1) You are getting the original CD and the serial number. Ideally the seller will agree to fill out an Adobe License Transfer form, which are available for free on Adobe's website. I have seen many people burned by copied discs and pirated serial numbers - which the latest Adobe installers have a database of and won't accept.

2) The version you're buying is upgradable to the version you want to upgrade to. Not all versions will be acceptable to the upgrade installer software.

3) The version you are buying is the FULL version, not itself an upgrade version. The upgrade disc won't accept another upgrade disc as proof of purchase and you need a full version install to base your upgrade on.

First.. I bought PS7 from Adobe. I have the original box, manual,CD and all the paperwork that came with it.. and even have my receipt.

I had a few problems with it recently.. and the following link explains what I did, and what happened when I bought a copy of PS7 on Ebay from a seller with very good feedback.

He has recently been arrested by the police and is being charged on numerous counts. Adobe is aware of him and is also going to be pressing charges from what I have been told.

link: GG link to my post on PS7

I have now purchased PS cs from a retailer locally, and have registered it with adobe. and have had my lawyer conact them about their failure to assist me.

It makes me nervous to think about it. I buy other stuff from eBay, but I keep hearing there are a lot of pirated PS copies on eBay.

If you do it, will you post a follow-up with your results?

If you're looking for professional-caliber photo-editing software, you may want to take a look at Picture Window Pro by Digital Light and Color. The guy who wrote it was one of the founders of Lotus and wrote Lotus 1-2-3. Pretty brilliant guy. Anyway, you can check it out here:

Digital Light and Color Website
Direct link to Picture Window Pro

It's a 48 bit image editing program with excellent masking capabilities and full color management support. It's a whole lot easier to learn than Photoshop, you can try it free for 30 days, and if you like it you can purchase it for $90. IMO, the only reason to buy Photoshop is if you need some of the bazillion plugins that are available for it.
