I was just curious how many of you use a mono-pod as opposed to a tri-pod. Any advantage to a mono over a tri? I'm all eyes for the answer. Thanks for your input!

I use 'em both, as the conditions require.

A tripod will give you the most stable shooting platform without a doubt. But, they're heavier, require some room to set up, require some time to set up/tear down...

A monopod takes up hardly much more room than what YOU take up, is quick (1/3 the setup/teardown time at a minimum).

Thanks for your opinions, folks! I'm seriously considering the mono.

Tripod, but mostly because when I was in high school, one of my teachers, a rabid photographer who used a tripod almost exclusively, broke out a monopod for a football game, and forgot it wasn't a tripod. He let go of the camera and I watched in horror as it s-l-o-w-l-y overbalanced and fell to the ground. I'm way too scatterbrained to take that kind of chance...

i hand-hold pretty everything you might have seen me post here. but when, for instance, i go to my son's soccer games i find a monopod most useful, practical, and convenient.

when shooting video with smaller DV cameras like sony's pd-150 (or the new sony mini hi-def), i've used monopods a fair number of times as a hand-held camera jib capturing angles and images that make people take notice--even other shooters--often causing them to make remarks like, "dang. how'd you get that shot???"
