So I've talked my wife into getting me a california sunbounce for christmas. I'm looking to get the 3' x 4'. Here are my questions:

1. I don't want to harsh gold. Is the zebra a soft gold. If not, what do they call their soft gold.

2. I have no idea where to buy them. I've found it at studiodepot.com but don't know anything about this outfit. Rolando had mentioned a new relationship with Samy's but their site doesn't show california sunbounce.

Oops. I mean birthday. Also, I should point out that Samy's rents California sunbounce but doesn't sell it. I thought that was odd.

Question still remains. - Is the zebra a soft gold and where can I get these things in the U.S.

I heard rumor of a GG discount once. Does that still exist?

Oddly enough, they have a website . Click here, then the American flag, then the "dealers" link, although the list is sometimes not accurate. You may have to call dealers in different cities to find what you want. I've been using their stuff for years, but rarely anything but silver. If you're shooting at sunset, you don't need a gold reflector to make the light gold, it already is. The most I would use is a silver/gold zebra, earlier in the day before the color changes, or if I want to warm up a flash unit. You can buy a frame with fabric, and an extra fabric to switch depending on your use. They also make translucent fabric to use as an overhead scrim. http://www.californiasunbounce.com/

Andy,

Thanks for the reply. I'll give the dealers on the list a call. Do you have a vendor on the list that you've worked with and prefer?

No, I bought mine so long ago I can't remember where I got them, but it might have been the Calumet store in LA. I think when we checked recently, not all the listed dealers really had them, so you might have to call around just to find one. I would start with Calumet and Samy's since they're both multiple-store outfits (Samy's in CA only, Calumet is nationwide) and go until you find what you're looking for. Sorry I can't be more help.

It's good to know that they're durable enough to last a long time.

I actually checked the Dealer link at California Sunbounce and they've got a dealer Mole Richardson Co., Studio Depot. When I first tried to find a vendor I looked up Mole Richardson on the net. They looked like a rental company. This time I noticed that Studio Depot is a Mole Richardson Company. They look like the sales side of the company. Since Studio Depot was the only company I could find it through (based on an internet search) and they're listed as a sunbounce dealer I think I'm going to go through them. I've also decided so go with the silver based on your feedback.

Thanks again for your help. Love your work.

Studio Depot is Mole-Richardson's retail store, mostly for walk-in type customers, on La Brea in Hollywood. MR has long been one of the movie industry's leading suppliers & manufacturers of lighting and grip equipment, which they sell or lease to production companies along with trucks, generators, etc. They also make special effects stuff like fog and wind machines. Very expensive stuff, but very durable.

Samy's just signed a deal to handle Sunbounce. I don't believe they have received their shipment yet.
