Sometimes when I post there seems to be to much compression or something.

And the photos are 600 max and this one is Filesize : 145,958

It definitely looks better on my computer than when I view it on the GG site

Any ideas why this happens?

Often, the differences are in the color space of the image. Was the image shot under sRGB, worked on in the same color space, and uploaded as sRGB? If you're using a Windows-based PC, that's what your web browser is displaying, and it'll look best if you if it's converted to sRGB (if needed) before uploading.

As an example, I shoot in AdobeRGB, keep the image in AdobeRGB throughout my post-processing, and until I resize the image for web posting, keep it in AdobeRGB. Then, when I'm ready to make the web-sized (for email, web posting, whatever doesn't need a full-sized high resolution copy), I convert it from AdobeRGB to sRGB, and then crop it to 500 pixels horizontal (and let the vertical wind up where it may) at 72 dpi, and then save that image with a 'web' tag in the filename.

Does that sound like it's something you might need to be doing?

One other thing you might think about... 142kB is a rather large file for a 600x400 image. Are you using the "Save for Web" function of Photoshop or saving it a different way? "Save for Web" strips out some unnecessary extra baggage to try and keep the filesize down as much as possible, which helps out those folks who are on dialup.

Wayne thanks...I think that suggestion may have fixed my problem also. However my camera default color is Srgb...I'll have to look and see if I can change it to Adobe1998. I think this is where Im getting the magenta vpsteve was refering too in all of my images.
Thanks again!!
Don.

sRGB is what you want for the web. That is also how Photoshop Save for Web saved the photo. If you have a different color space in Photoshop than sRGB, and then you do a Save for web, then the photo will look different on the Web than it does in Photoshop. Here is an example:
