I am getting serious about my photography and want to know in a non technical sense if the Pentax-2 SLR Digital compares favorably with the Nikon D-70 for lingerie, semi nude and nude photography as well as scenic stuff. Thank you

Sorry I don't know much personally about the *ist DS to compare it to a D70, which I have used, but I did find this review comparing it to a D70:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/pentaxistds/page19.asp

That's only one page of it. There's a lot of info about the camera there. It does get technical in spots, though.

Hope this helps.

You can also read more on D70 here .

I don't know much about *ist. Should be a good one. There is a side-by-side comparison here .

According to the reviews (I don't know how accurate they are) D70's image quality is better compared to *ist.

I suggest considering other options (such as D50, Digital Rebel XT, 20D, etc.), too.

Hope this helps!

I've been shooting with the *istd since it came to the states,I've shot over 70 weddings with it,calendar shoots, modeling and portrait shots,I like the camera
but it's mostly the lens. I shot Pentax 35 for years so my lens fit my *istd.
It didn't take to long to learn how to use it but, I had learned quick how to use the histagram. There are so many great cameras out there now ,it would be hard to pick one.If I had to pick again I don't know if I go Pentax.
Good Luck !Choose but Choose wisely!!!!

I agree... there are other options out there, and of all the photogs I know out there, only one guy shoots with the Pentax digital slr.. everyone else is Canon, Nikon, Fuji or Kodak.. mostly Canon..

I wouldn't trade my 20D for a D70 or any Pentax camera.. seriously.

The D70s (don't but the D70, the slightly tweaked D70s will be in stores by mid/late this month) is a quite superior camera to the *ist D in image quality, handling (subjectively), colors, shutter speeds, autofocus, etc. However, the *ist D is several hundred dollars more expensive.

As long as you're willing to pay more for the *ist D, I would say go up another $100 or so and buy a Canon 20D. It's even further superior to the D70s than the D70s is to the *ist D. Faster autofocus and shooting speed, more functions and greater control, slight megapixel boost, faster writing/reading to CF cards, GORGEOUS color, great sharpness, bigger viewfinder...I'm a Nikon guy but if I were you I'd want a 20D.

If you can't afford it though, the D70s is an excellent choice. I would easily chose it above the *ist D (too expensive for its feature set), the Canon Digital Rebel (smaller, flimsier, and more crippled than the D70s, too small for a male's hands) or the Canon Digital Rebel XT (catches up to the D70s in features, ups the megapixels to 8 from 6 which isn't a huge deal, THEY MADE IT EVEN FRIGGIN SMALLER).

The Digital Rebels, the D70s, the 20D, the Fuji S3 are probably the only ones you should be looking at. The price-to-feature ratio is too high on the *ist D's and the Sigmas are just crap.

You should also consider the Fuji S3, which I hear is excellent but have no experience with.

Disclaimer : I've used all these cameras but I don't own any of them so there's no bias there.

Well as an update I ended up buying a Canon DOS Rebel 6.3 mega. This Tuesday my wife Patti and I are attending a workshop with Alan Lowery in Cave Creek AZ. My wife will learn posing and I am going to learn how to take photographs. Alan is photoing Patti also for his portfolio.
