I've got some Nikon Speedlights and some umbrellas that I would like to put together for an outdoor shoot. I don't have a clue how to do it without Wisconsin Chrome, also known as duct tape. I'm open to any suggestions. This is a temporary fix until I get a battery pack for my monolights--so I don't want it to be too expensive or fancy.

Larson sells a "CENTER-IT UMBRELLA BRACKET" which centers the flash with the umbrella. Works great, have used the same one for 20 years.

Go to bhphotovideo and type in "umbrella bracket" and then sort all items from "low to high" and you will see about 10 brackets which are exactly what you want on the first page of the list.

They go on top of a standard light stand, swivel in the middle (so you can point the umbrella down or up), have a hole and set screw for the umbrella, and a mount for a flash.

I did some of my first shoots with these kind of brackets and they work just fine.

I use two speedlights bounced into umbrellas for outside shooting with the mount (see linked below) which you can get at many camera stores for about $16 or from Adorama. I teather one speedlight to my camera and use an optical slave to fire the second speedlight.
