What does every studio photographer drool over? A ring light of course. Well my friends, please welcome the Bundtlight 5000!

Yes folks, you saw it here first! A Litelight and a bundt cake pan, aided by a dremel, formed like Voltron to create a very ringflashy effect. And with a possible 2400ws behind it, distance has yet to be a problem. Check out the results:

Thanks! I have no training in metal working, but I'm learning that with a dremel, all things are possible! Yeah the domain name, funny story... I was going through the photoshop motions of designing a logo and on top of it being difficult my pc descided to start locking up (hasn't stopped I'm just waiting for my Tax return to buy a mac mini ). The logo that I ended up creating is the one that still rests there today. Luck me the domain was available!

The model is Suzanne number 106001 at some other site. She was doing a shoot for a friend of mine's band Assrockers. Initially it was just supposed to be the band's shirt on busty model, but she came up with the idea that it's Assrockers, not boobrockers and wore one of the shirts like a miniskirt! (I didn't reall know that was possible before) Suzanne is great to work with and very comfortable with herself. I've also done photography for the band. They're great if you like raw, Les Paul-plugged-straight-into-a-Marshall-style hard rock.

even though it's a bundt cake pan and a light source, if its marketed they'll still mark it up many many MANY hundreds of percent over its cost simply cuz is a photography accessory.

next time you look at that chimera softbox or grid that cost so many hundreds of dollars think about the actual cost of that material and the sweat shop ladies sewing it and what kind of a deal you're getting.

Well it's all complicated when it comes to ring flashes. If it's a true ring light you have to engineer a flash tube with a diameter large enough to accomodate a MF slightly telephoto lens and be mounted in a reflector, which isn't easy. Then figure there's what, maybe a 1k-2k people in the world willing to shell out the $1500 for it not to mention the power pack? That drives production costs way up. Run off 5000 and you have years of warehouse inventory. It makes a ton more sense to just get a pencil light and build a reflector. That's what Balcar did in the first place. Of course the reflector and mounting bracket are $300 (and out of stock), still a lot more than a bundt cake pan! Here's the original insiration for the bundtlight 5000:

That is one of the most amazing thins I have ever seen. I don't have a dremmel, but I do have a hacksaw and some emery cloth. I'm gonna make that s*#$ happen. Thank you. If you ever find yourself in the Philly area, hit me up, I'll buy you a beer.

Good luck, PM me if you need any additional pointers. One thing I will say is invest in the dremel. They're wonder tools! You can polish jewelry, grind you dog's nails, cut metal stock, deburr cut metal, drill holes, remove rust from tools, etc. It'll be really hard to cut circles with diameters that small with a hack saw.
