I want to thank everyone for the great feedback on where to buy film. I ended up using Adorama and was very pleased by their selection and the ease of ordering. My only problem with them is while browsing their web site I got a really, really bad case of the “I Want!”s”.

So, I now have 40 rolls of film stashed in the fridge with plans to shoot most of it in 2 weeks at Rolando’s San Antonio workshop. So naturally, the question of developing the film is becoming a priority. While on Adorama, I saw pre-paid mailers for both Fuji and Kodak. The cost of these mailers is approx. $3.30 less per roll than the local lab. I recognize the drawbacks of longer time and potential for loss but am considering it.

Any thoughts?

I am always amused at the lengths people will go to to save a dollar or two. If you want to risk losing your film to save $3 then by all means go for it. Film and processing are the cheapest part of the photography process.

Drew

I don't know what local lab you're using, but my lab will always cut a deal if you bring in a bunch of film. I always got 20% to 25% off when I brought in a pile of film from a trip. Ask -- all they can say is no. Ask around -- there may be other labs more open to negotiation.

There was some concern about shipping film via the post office because of the x-ray checks and irradiating the mail. Don't know what happened to that idea. Might check with the USPS.

I like getting my film back in two hours -- I guess I'm just spoiled....

Bill,
As much as I agree with you in theory, in practice the savings for processing 20 rolls would be enough for me to buy another 20 rolls. Now, give me a few years to get rid of 4 teen parasites and get the ex out of graduate school and then theory & practice will match!
