Does anyone know if the Nikkor AF-ED lens will work with the Fuji S1 I know the "D" series work but can't find any info on the "ED" I have an opportunity to pick one up at a great price. But doesn't make a whole lot of sense if it doesn't work.

Jeff

The "E" part of the ED is the "Enhanced Dispersion" glass used in the lens elements. There's nothing to interact with the camera at all. Unlike the "D" part where the lens is feeding info back to the computer in the camera.

I wouldn't be quick to jump to the conclusion that the "D" in ED is the same "D" as in Nikon AF D. Seems to me it's just the Dispersion part of Enhanced Dispersion, but I could be wrong.

Are you sure its the camera's autofocus and not the lens? Are you sure the camera is not back or front focusing? I have a friend that just sent his Canon D60 back to Canon for servicing because it was back focusing at long distances.

I did a search on google for Fuji S1 and Nikon lenses and apparently the two are compatible.

I guess it all depends on the distance to subject, what you are focusing on, etc. My Tamron 28-105 F/2.8 is a pretty good lens but at 2.8 its not the sharpest. However, when I had a Canon, my 70-210 F/4 was unbelieveable. It was tack sharp.

This is a good site for reviews on lenses.

The "D" is a left over from way back in the 70's Nikon changed metering systems and the "D" signified the new one. It may sound strange that Nikon is still using it until you realize that a lot of those old Nikon "F" series cameras are still clunking along just fine (makes me wonder if my N80 or D100 will last that long).

The ED is stands for the Extralow Dispersion (sp) glass that is on the upper level lenses Nikon makes. Yes, it should be compatible with your S1.
