If your had to make a choice of a softbox or an Octabox (alien bees) for all around use, what would you choose? I am going to purchase one and I don't know which I should go for. I want the best one for all around general use! Thanks

The only real difference will be the shape of the catch light in the model's eyes. A traditional softbox gives a square or rectangular catch light and the Octabox a more rounded one.

Photek Softliter. I saw a couple of these at a recent workshop and I wished I bought them instead of softboxes! They set up fast, you get an umbrella, a shoot thru umbrella, and softbox all in one that fits practically every light, all for about $90 for the largest (60") one. The only draw back is the possibility of funky catch lights. You can see the head and lightstand in the catch lights sometimes. Great modifier, I intend to get a couple before the end of the year.

I love my octodome whish is about the same thing as you octobox. I like the feathering and catchlight effect much better than a softbox. JMHO.
