I almost never come to GG anymore since the Main Forum -- not some of the others -- almost always shows up as a completely blank frame.

That's unless I turn my Norton Internet Security totally off, which I'm reluctant to do on a broadband connection.

I've fiddled lot'sa settings, but still can't see the forum. Anyone else have this happen?! Solutions appreciated! Thanks,

Lynn

I haven't had the problem, but I'm not running an after market firewall. I run the Widnows XP SP2 firewall and connect via a broadband router that performs NAT, so I don't have much problem with things getting to my PC from the interent.

I'd suggest either going with the router and dumping the Norton Firewall or try opening the firewall to something like *.garageglamour.com and see what happens.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to change to the Firefox browser. It's waaay better than IE and so far, I've had no malware infiltration that I can detect. It just doesn't have all the holes in it that IE has.

I second the router idea too. Software firewalls are a little dodgy.

I have several machines I run. One uses Norton Firewall and it has no problem with GG. The other runs ZoneAlarm Pro, again, with no problems. I have a third machine with just the windows XP SP2 firewall and it runs just fine. I run IE 6 for the browser. I have had problems with other browsers such as Firefox, Opera etc. I suspect your problem is not browser related or firewall related, however. The problem you describe sometimes happens when you have adware or spyware installed on your computer (usually unknown to you). So check out something like AdAware which is free and will check out your computer for such items. I can assure you, however, that I've never had any problem viewing anypart of GG from not only my 3 computers, but also from computers all over the world that I've used when traveling.
Cheers,
rfs

"I suspect your problem is not browser related or firewall related"

thanks much for the reply and you are probably right-on about the browser and f/w relationships, but I've been running AdAware and SpyBot forever. FireFox and other Mozillas are similar in effect : (

Yes, I have a h/w NAT fw downline of my local LAN but am reluctant to drop the Norton s/w firewall. Especially since it's required by my company in order to connect there. Have opened to gg.com -- something subtle is going on here, not sure what, thanks much for your good thoughts!!

Thanks to everyone for their input. I have this problem with Mosaic/Mozilla browsers but only with the Norton sw fw and only with GG. Don't believe the hw fw is involved. Running two or three spyware killers. It's driving me crazy! I'm mcse/cissp so at least minimally trained. Have forwarded link-level packet traces to the Hackman, w/o any Eurekas. So, I can always click on "last 48" or such to see some things happening on the main forum ...

Lynn,
When I go into the main forum, and only the main forum, using IE6, I get a runtime error that prompts me to debug instead of cruisin right in...line 78, object expected. I ran the debugger a few times and it looks like a hanging script at the end of the page. Mozilla has no probs so I just use firefox for GG instead.

I'll email Hackman. Maybe it's related.

Good luck,
michael

It seems unlikely it is a problem with IE 6, other wise a lot of us who use IE 6 would get it. I never have gotten it and the main forum as do all the others always load just fine for me. I have tested this on half a dozen computers each with different operating systems (win 2000, Win xp Pro, Win Tablet, Win xp home) and the lastest version of IE 6. But GG has always worked just fine for me on older versions of IE also.
Sine the problem the original poster has seems to go away when they shut down their Norton Firewall, it seems more likely that it is related to the Norton Firewall. I would suggest perhaps turning off Norton and turning on Win SP2 firewall and test if the errors still happen.
Cheers,
rfs
