I don't know if this is a fake or real thing. You can download the new D50's manual from the following link according to some web site I just browsed.

http://www.nikon-asia.com/downloadst...UserManual.pdf

Looks like this is not much of an upgrade from D70 (which I just ordered).

Again, I assume no responsibility if this is a fake. Up to you to decide.

Note: The server is very slow.

Without even loading it, I can see its coming from Nikon-asia, and is probably made for the Asian market, not available in the US. I don't know why manufacturers do this, I don't know why they think some feature that is GREAT in the US wouldn't be of interest to Asian or European markets, and vice-versa, but that's what they do. I wouldn't worry about it, if there was an upgrade to the D70 available here now, you'd know about it.

I agree...they hit a home run with this camera and will keep it in production as long as they can until the demand dies due to something Canon releases. -Jim

My guess is that they weren't supposed to upload the file to the server or push the file to production. This happens all the time in web development--the most notorious example was Pathfinder.com's inadvertent publishing of a guilty verdict for O.J. Simpson on the web several years ago. The file is probably pulled by now, although it will surface again on mirror sites soon.

Well, there's the Canon 20Da, a camera designed specifically for astrophotography that's available in Japan only, and several low-end Nikons (e.g. FE-10) that aren't imported into the U.S. but available elsewhere).

Besides, most Nikon users go to the European site to download software upgrades...

They have pulled the files from the server. Actually there were 2 new model manuals were available: D50 and D70S.

Here are some noticeable differences between the new D50 and current D70 as observed by some others (I couldn't download the manuals):

No sub command dial.
IR Sensor moved to where sub command dial was.
Comes with accessory shoe cover.
No monitor cover at all.
Doesnt come with the MS-D70 CR2 Holder.
Missing slide switch to lock focus area.
Runs on SD Memory.
Missing Bracket button (though it still does bracketing)
No AE or flash only bracketing
Sensor appears to have identical specs.
Battery sign moved from viewfinder bar (at bottom) to sitting at the lower left of the viewfinder itself.
Menus have a slightly different look to them (not structure, just their background colours)
"No memory card sign" added to lower right of viewfinder.
2" screen
USB 2.0 Hi speed (as opposed to full speed)
Fastest shutter of 1/4000 (as opposed to 1/8000)
420-segment RGB sensor (1005 on D70)
No DOF preview
Extra Digi Vari mode - Child
Available ISO's are 200,400,800,1600 only
Photo information is in the following order-File Information ‚ÜĒ Shooting Data Page 1 ‚ÜĒ Shooting Data Page 2 ‚ÜĒ Highlights ‚ÜĒ Histogram ‚ÜĒ File Information.
Eyepiece cup looks bigger.
Medium size image is 2256 √ó 1496 instead of 2240 √ó 1488
No gridlines on viewfinder display.
Auto AF-S/AF-C selection (AF-A).
3.5mm spot meter circle.
No fine-tuning of WB.
Traditional Chinese, Portuguese and Russian languages available.
Dimensions differ slightly - 133 √ó 102 √ó 76 mm (5.2ň? √ó 4.0ň? √ó 3.0ň?) instead of 140 √ó 111 √ó 78 mm (5.5ň? √ó 4.4ň? √ó 3.1ň?)
Weight differs slightly - 540 g instead of 595 g
Metering mode button has become the timer button.
2.5fps instead of 3fps

Differences between new D70S and D70 (features of new D70s):
Remote cord connector - remote shutter release
2" monitor
Menus have a slightly different look to them (not structure, just their background colours)
Monitor cover is part number BM-5 (instead of BM-4)
New battery - EN-EL3a although the EN-EL3 is listed as an optional accessory.
Eyepiece cup looks bigger.
Weight differs slightly - 600 g instead of 595 g
Seems theyve fixed the exposure count issue when using NEF
Aside from those, the book is nearly identical to the D70 book.

Again the above information is from another web site (Nikonians forum). I don't know if they are correct or not. Just for your information.

News of Nikon's next digital SLRs leaked after Nikon Asia and Nikon Germany 'accidentally' dropped the user manuals onto their websites. This quickly spread and appeared on our forums within minutes. Nikon asked us to remove the primary leak thread (we don't normally do this but agreed to in this case, although it was pointless). After this we were a little surprised to then read an article on Macworld that Mr 'Susumu Enomoto', a spokesman for Nikon Corp, has now confirmed that the D50 is real, a further story on Rob Galbraith's site adds credence to the D70s.

Quote from Macworld story
"Nikon would not reveal any of the D50's specifications and features. But the D50 is one of several new digital SLR models that the company is planning to release following the success of the popular D70 model that went on sale in March 2004, Enomoto said."
