I've learned so muchfrom this website. I was just reading about parameter settings on a Rebel and decided to have a look at my 10D to see what adjustments there are. Sure enough there they are. Where do other 10D users set theirs? I really like the color on my shots to jump out. I'm not really proficent at PS so any adjustments I can do with the camera would be beneficial.

For one, I can't stress how much the contrast setting makes a difference if you are shooting in jpg mode.. Set the contrast to -2 because you can always add contrast in photoshop, or in the supplied Canon image manipulation software..(which sux)... later on but you can get detail out of areas you lost detain in that are gone thanks to the image being too contrasty.. I shared this with a few guys here ask Allen P. what a difference it has made for his photography!

Also,...the tone adjustment...just leave it in the middle..that can screw up colour and "correcting" it later may not quite work the way you want it to..

The sharpening...hmm...I have heard some people say not to sharpen...but I I have it set in the middle.. Saturation...hmm... I leave the be too.. unless you want to saturate the image automatically... again, I'd rather have that control afterwards where I can adjust how much or how little I want to saturate the image...which can really make a mess out of your pixels.. and if you are printing images larger than 5x7 you will see what I mean..

The only time I change to my pre set conditions is when I am shooting in very low contrast situations like in the fog, or when it's pretty humid out and I am shooting with a telephoto lens which compresses everything between me and the subject,...than I have to have more contrast...otherwise, I keep my digital cameras set to -2 on the contrast and everything else in the middle..

I hope that helps out..

JP
