Hey guys,

I suck at business. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on software to help me keep up with expenses, time spent on work, etc., etc.... things like that? It'd have to be Mac compatible, since that's what I use.

Thanks for your help!

Usually the artsy mac types get an accountant or some other person with "business sense" to rob them blind and keep them eating potted meat for years so that they can get the whole starving artist thing going before they get nabbed by the IRS for evading taxes they didn't know they owed because their good buddy and business consultant friend had been blowing it on trips to the islands and geisha girls.....
In short, isn't business software for a mac sort of like nylons for an elephant...something that could be produced but no one has come up with a reason...

Actually, as a diehard Mac user myself I think Quickbooks would help you do what you want..if you have the patience to read the 1,493 page manual or have someone who can read it for you and then explain it (that's what I did for my newspaper.)

Cool Beans! Another Mac user. I use Quickbooks, a little daunting at first, but easy enough once you're used to it. Check with local community college, some times they offer classes. Any time you have a question, just ask. Love to help!

Yup, Quickbooks.
I have three businesses that I run out of my home office. Photography, Hot Sauce and an Ecommerce site.
You can create (I think) up to five businesses on one install of Quickbooks, I could be wrong about the number, but three for sure!!
You can use it for some many things like pricing per client per job and have tonnes of little nit picky details done automatically.
It's the cat's ass for a small business owner like me.
Even though I am a lowly PC user, it fits the bill.
Good luck.
Take care
Craig

If you're looking for photo business software, check out Photobyte.

This is a link on this site to Tom Zimberoff excerpts: http://www.garageglamour.com/tips/to...otography1.php

Actually, I would suggest you find a copy of the boook (it comes with a CD with PhotoByte on it.) The software is EXHAUSTIVE and the book is not only a primer in how to use it, but is a fantastic book on how to have a profitable career.

Hehe, yeah, my business sense is pretty lacking... I guess there are Mac users out there who actually do need some of those non-fun, non-cool business programs.

And I guess I'd have plenty of time to read a manual that long, since I'm not technically working right now... but I'm trying to change that.

Thanks!

Yep, we MacHeads are out there. Funny thing is, there was a time in my life when I used to bash Macs pretty bad...

...but that was before I used one.

And I may just hafta check my local CC, or get a book, or something... oh, and the program too, I guess.

Thank you for your help!

That's cool that you can run at least three businesses from Quickbooks, 'cause that's kinda actually what I was thinking of doing, believe it or not.

Thank you!

Sam

P.S.: I thought it was "the cat's MEOW", not "the cat's A$$". Have I been saying that wrong all this time?

Sam,
MEOW is if you want to be politically correct, or PG13 neither of which I am capable of being.
That's just me.
Here's me in my latest hot sauce campaign advertisement...

Now is that the face of someone politically correct?
Me thinks not....
Take care,
Uncle Big

Well, what I'm wanting to do is to offer both graphic design and photographic services. I skimmed over the excerpt, and it seems to have some useful information that I could apply to a design business as well. I'll definitely hafta read over the whole thing and possibly pick up the book too.

Thank you!
