I am trying to put my book together and have read Rolando's post. I also know he recomended a book at one of my workshops but can't remember what it was.

My question is that for those of us printing our own stuff in digital what size is best and most professionally acceptable? 9 x 12 is not the size of any digital paper. 11 x 14 would be the closest but I am afraid that it will not be looked at because of its non standard size.

Advice and help appreciated. Also, where is the best price and selection available online?

Thank.

As far as I know...11x14 IS a standard size for Photographers.
My book is 11x14

The fact that you can't buy 9x12 printer paper is irrelevant to the fact that it's a standard portfolio size.

My big portfolios are 11x14. My "traveling" one, that lives in my briefcase and is safe for all viewers, is 9x12. Models usually ask me for 9x12 shots when I work TFP. I probably would have stuck with 9x12 for all my stuff except that I got two 11x14 portfolios for Christmas last year and I figured, 'What the hell."

I like to see 11X14 personally, that is the size of my model's book. As far as best pricing online, well, not sure about online but, call me cheap I don't mind, you can pick up a portfolio's in several sizes at Hobby Lobby for under $30. IMHO, it's the best way to go until you can save up for one of those fancy expensive ones!

11X14 works for me. Itoya Art Profolio Presentation/Display Book is cheap and at most fine (pro) photography stores. My favorite is Light Impressions Cat. #9718 (11X14) at www.lightimpressionsdirect.com.

I use 11x14 for my main portfolio and have a smaller 5x7 for carrying around in the camera bag and what not.

All four of my portfolios are 11x14. Yes, four! Here's what I have.

ADB's Leather Bound Brushed Aluminum I have three
Pina Zangaro Frost Screwpost I have one. It is clear with light blue leather trim. The image on the front is this one:

and the image on the back is this one:

Whatever you do, stay away from ring binder books. If you have to save money then get yourself one of those Itoya books. If you want a killer presentation, get a pro book with custom engraving.

Also, one note of interest in that my books are portrait formatted. When I want to show a landscape format image, I double truck it, or spread it out over two pages so the person looking at it doesn't have to keep flipping the book over and over, or even oce for that matter.

It looks like now I have some choices to make. LOL

I like 11 x 14 because I can do it full bleed or create a nice amount of white space if I want.

Thanks to everyone.

Sherwin.

I asked the same question here a year ago and ended up with this place:
http://www.models-mart.com/Portfolios.html

They have an awesome 9x12 Portfolio called SCUBA, I bought one for me and extras to sell to the Models, I am just about to reorder, contact me if you want one...
