With all of the new RAW converters hitting the market, pretty soon everyone will be in a quandry as to which to use. Now that the former programmer of Capture One has jumped ship and has his own converter, the landscape has shifted again. And his converter is free. Here are a couple of samples that I just made. The RSE sample is using Rawshooter Essentials 1.1 and the ACR is using Photoshop CS ACR 2.4. I used the Canon 20D for the photo of Lindsey and converted both just using a basic visual approach with each converter. I did no sharpening other than within each of the converters. What do you think about these two conversions?

Cheers,
rfs

Hmm, I dunno... Looks to me like you get just a tad more detail in the RSE, but it also looks a bit flat, and the ACR looks more like a "finished" image. I do like the color better in the ACR.

I really like the RSE, but it's still in beta so I guess we'll have to wait a little longer

I like the RSE better but you could have put something else up to compare where I could have kept my attention on the task at hand.

I'm leaning toward the RSE photo. It has more detail for sure. The colors look a little more natural especially the blue top.

I downloaded RSE on Saturday and have been playing with it a little. I have been using Capture One LE and on occasions ACR. I love the workflow RSE it is even a little nicer than C1LE and much better than ACR. RSE does give better detail and seems to give a little more dynamic range with much better shadow detail. I find the only downside is getting good color seems a little more work but of course I have only been working with it for a few days.

I think RSE is going to be a real hit when they work out the color thing.

I downloaded RSE and used it with my shoot on Saturday. I love it. Can wait to see what they do to it next.
