Hey Mike. What can I say about the beach thing? I was raised in the south. My family stretches from ElDorado Arkansas, to New Iberia Louisiana, to Austin Texas. The mountains are great and this is a great area to raise kids. BUT, EVERYTIME we go on vacation have continuing ed classes, etc. , we head to Florida, Mexico, or a beach somewhere.

Thanks for the W.B. info. I guess the Canon 20d is adjusted by using the specific number off of the kelvin scale (I honestly haven't looked at it yet but I will here real soon). From what I've read, the cloudy overcast setting would be somewhere around 6000 to 6500 and adds more reds and such. Is that correct? I know it probably varies with lighting conditions.

White Balance (to me) is very important if you are only shooting JPG images. If you shoot raw, you have some post-processing ability for changing colors and the likes, but it is tougher to color balance a badly colored image.

There is a setting on the white balance (top right of camera). Set it until it looks like a little flower (looks like a flower to me).. Then, shoot a gray card using the correct exposure settings (use manual focus or it will seek forever).

Then, in your menu (assuming you are in manual mode), select "Custom WB" and choose that image you just shot.

Now if you are not in the studio, repeat.. Note, some modes of the camera will not give you the "Custom WB" setting mode. I believe you can use AV/TV and M.. Can't remember which other ones.

Good luck..

I just grabbed the book and looked up custom WB on the 20d. Thanks for the advice Kevin. I will give it a shot...
