I have only been running my rental studio for 4 years... I have seen everything from 50 watt halogens to 25K HMV's ( or whatever their called)... the shooter with 50 watt halogens created better images. It must have been bad luck cause I have cleaned up the glass, and sanded out the burn marks...

Wasn't there a major fire a few years back in Bollywood were the cast and crewed burnt.. they had the doors chained...did a quick google search and didn't find the details. I am not sure what caused it.

On a practical note, if these lights are going to be used to photograph horses, and they want most of the animal in focus, won't he have to shoot at f8 or higher? What wattage of lights will he need for that?

Continuos lights work in some situations, but strobe have some real advantages.

You must have missed what I said above. For shooting horses on location, or any location work, I'd go with strobes.
