I can't imagine that the camera....if it's the Canon top-of-the-line, or Nikon's new top-of-the-line, or even a D70 or 20D is going to have much effect on your images.

The truth is that it is highly doubtful anyone will ever know the difference. Both brands offer exceptional image quality. There are great photographers getting great images out of five-year old digital equipment. And...there are poor photographers getting terrible images out of the $5,000 cameras.

Save your time and money and spend it using the system you have. Maybe focus the time you would have spent switching, on improving what's behind the camera. You will probably get a better return on investment. I can’t imagine it could make any sense financially or time-wise to make the switch and repurchase everything......especially when the differences will be so negligible. When you start shooting for National Geo, S.I. or Vogue....then concern yourself with it. Save the money...go to Hawaii.

The sensor in the D2h and the D2hs are the same exact sensor. The processing may be slightly different. The sensors are the same.

Are there differences between Demos and Repubs? Sure. How much of that is really substantive, and how much of that is packaging? Depends on who you ask. But we both know that it's a little of one and a little of the other. Nevertheless, there are some of us who will ONLY vote one way or the other, and there are those of us who could care less and swing vote, or vote independent, or not at all.

It's not a bad analogy, Demos vs Repubs, Nikon vs Canon.

They're both intiutive. Both love LCDs and menu options and modal buttons and so forth. Both have huge--and pretty good quality--lens lines. Both are quite ergonomic. Both place a little too much stock in options, a little too little stock in good strong viewing systems and straightforward operation.

Nikons are better built. Canons have faster AF. And one and then the other is always leap-frogging each other's firmware.

If you got used to your Nikon, yes, you can probably get used to Canon very quickly. Will there be things you miss? Yes. Most notably a good viewfinder. But you'll survive, and you might well love the much higher resolution, and the superior AF.

I gave Nikon the first 20 years, so I decided to give Canon a shot at the second 20 years I recently made the switch from Nikon to Canon, and the transition has been fairly uneventful. The ergonomics are different. Not really better, or worse, just different. Once I got used to it, it became second nature. Now when I pick up a Nikon D1x or similar, I'm somewhat lost for a little while.

I wouldn't worry at all about making the switch. If Canon will offer what you need technically, then you will easily adapt and adjust to the new interface and way of doing things. So far, I haven't seen any major drawbacks to making the switch, other than the initial cost of switching, and the short time it took me to get acclimated. Everything feels second nature again.
