So how does this stack up against the 20D? Know what the price is going to be?

Here's more on it

According to this article the kit will be $999 and $899 for body only.

Best I can tell from what I've read is they are trying to find a happy medium between the 20d and digital rebel. All the specs are in the links from my original post.

It still seems shadey the iso only goes up to 1600. My 300D does iso 3200 with some Russian help. Yet they descided to throw in FEC and MLU (both of which the russian 300D firmware unlocks). Not to montion the sensor is the same size with a 1.6x crop factor. It was about time for the 8mp version to come out, a lot of the p&s digital cameras are already there. I hope it drives the price of the 20D down. One thing's for sure, Canon has one up on Nikon in the digital world and it looks determined to keep or increase the advantage.

Arrrggg! They switched the battery type! That sucks! This is the one thing canon continually does that pisses me off. I have an EOS 620, Elan 7, and a 300D, none of them take the same battery! Ug

As far as 350D vs 20D what I noticed was:

Max sync speed of 1/200 v. 1/250
Max shutter speed of 1/4000 v. 1/8000
Frame rate of 3fps v. 5fps.
plastic body v. alloy body
Mirror box v. pentaprism
And yes, they changed the friggin battery.

All in all though the 350D looks pretty good. Looks like they fixed the glaring omissions (FEC, MLU, metering options, file buffer). Still no PC port.

One other nice feature is independent selection of the color space from JPEG paramters. Having to change batteries and grips again is a pain though.

now i'm confused. i was gonna get a 20D and make my 10D my backup. now i'm looking at this 350D and thinking maybe i should consider this one instead of the 20D (for about $500 less).

i really don't care about the 3 vs. 5 shot continuous. i'm not sure if the difference in body materials means all that much for me. both cameras, it seems, use the same sensor and most likely the same processing.

hmmm... decisions, decisions.

I hear ya....I was eventually going to buy the 20d...but...now...maybe not. Hell, by time I do get another camera the rebel will have 17mp's and still cost $900...lol
