Does anyone using a D100 set the custom white balance? I have read the book but when setting the white balance I don't get the "Good" approval code as the final step. When I do take a photo the color is very blue so I am guessing I just can't follow instructions. Can someone outline the steps used.
I shoot in Manual mode.
Thanks

I have a D70 and use custom white balance. I think the blue is a result of getting a No Good custom reading. I do get one occasionally, but mostly it works the first time.

I use a grey card to do my white balance on. Here's the basic steps.

Set white balance to Preset in the menu.
Put the grey card in the light.
Fill the viewfinder with the grey.
Press the WB button on the back until you get "Pre" in the view finder.
Click the shutter button. The camera will sound like it took a picture, but that's just the mirror.
You'll get a Good or no Good in the view finder and the top display.
If No Good repeat.

Its really pretty easy. I pretty much leave my white balance on preset now.

BTW: RAW rocks for white balance. I shot a pretty good picture after not noticing I hadn't gotten a good white balance. It turned blue and I just set the WB in the camera to daylight. When I imported the files I found the best look was in the blue one. But because I'd shot RAW, I just changed the WB at import time to Daylight and it looked great.
