The new Microsoft XP 64 bit platform is almost ready for hard copy distribution. I heard through the grapevine that it is coming out in April or May of 2005. Those that are wondering, what the h78l does that mean? It means that through the engineering of AMD and Intel chipsets and Microsoft will soon have a fully operational operating system that will support such a beast. This is a very competitive machine in price comparison to a MAC. I built my total machine for 1400.00 which included a copy of xp proffesional. Rough stats of the computer 64 bit 53fx chipset, 1 gig ram, 2 80 gig 7200 rpm sata harddrives ran on a raid (mirror), case, 2 52 cd rw burners, 1 floppy with 7 in 1 card reader.

I currently have a 64 bit machine and run the AMD ATHLON 53FX chipset in my new computer. I have been running this since Christmas, Merry Christmas to myself. I had help from a friend who is very in the know of tommorows technology. Currently running the beta version of the 64 bit platform and it runs pretty smoothe even on only 1 gig of ram. These chipsets will now allow you to get up to 6.4 gigs or ram per second.

Cant wait until the adobe comes out with their version for the new platform. Means more power, and more engineering ability in my opinion. More info can be found at www.slashdot.org www.amd.com and www.microsoft.com

Best I could come up with on a fast google search. If the source is correct, PS CS 2.0 will not have 64-bit, but will lay the groundwork for it. They speculate that PS CS 3.0 (or PS 10 in the traditional numbering sequence) will have it.

Here's the link ...

Photoshop CS 2.0 Expected to ship next month

YEESH...ONLY 1 gig of RAM...

I suddenly feel old...

I remember when I had the hot rod computer on the block, the Commodore 128 (that's 128 *K* of RAM)...

I don't think 64 bit will excite me that much until the apps get there...especially programs that need it (ie Photoshop). As someone who has lusted after technology my entire life, read BIG GEEK, I'm having trouble paying for 64 bit to surf the web and write emails....but I'll be ready to make the plunge when Adobe gives me the word!!!
