how do you like it?

any problems?

any tips for buying one?
(like what options to get or stay away from)

How much RAM do you have (or need) to run Photoshop?

Thanks

I have an I-book with the 1.2 ghz processor and 768 megs of RAM. I like it as a second computer for working away from the office or showing clients samples. BUT, it is not great for a primary computer. I can't work with large files very well as it is too slow, won't hold the RAM or hard drive size needed, and the monitor is like looking at the ocean through a ship's portal. The screen is too small and you don't get an accurate idea of what a finished product really looks like. The color accuracy and contrast is in-correct. A 17 inch Powerbook may be better, but there is no comparison to a Good desktop and monitor.

Now for showing rough samples, taking photos and downloading them on the spot, and doing basic resizing, paperwork, etc, I'm glad I have it.

I use a 17-inch PowerBook. It's a beast and I love it.

No problems so far.

The only options I can recommend getting pertains to your next question about more RAM. Honestly, get as much RAM as you can afford. I have a gig in mine now, and Photoshop is such a monster that the more RAM you get, the better. There aren't really many other optional things you can add on to it, anyway. It comes pretty loaded.

I have a 12" iBook with the 1.2Ghz G4 processor and 1.25 Gig of RAM and a 100 GB hard drive. I installed the hard drive myself in about 45 minutes. This is my travel computer. My home machine is a dual G5 w/3Gig of RAM and a terrabyte of disk.

The iBook fits my needs exactly for a travel machine. I calibrated the screen with a Spyder and the colors are excellent now. Plenty of processor power and memory for the editing I do on the road and the 100 Gig of disk is more than adequate.

I am using a Powerbook 12" 1 Ghz machine and love it for it's portability.
You can use an external monitor when at home.

The only advise I would give is get lots of RAM and the faster hard disk option.

I've got a 1.33gh 12 inch powerbook that is wonderful. The displays are the best and the operating system is much better than anything you'll find in a Windoz based machine. I can't wait for the new OS Tiger (10.4) to be released.

Steven, Apple names it's operating systems to differtiate between them. The original OS X (operation system 10.0) was a big leap forward in functionality, but it was a bit wonky and OS 10.1 solved those problems. When Apple anounced OS 10.2 they named it Jaguar, which was a great operating system.
The next and current OS is Panther, OS 10.3, and it is the best OS(Operating System) I've ever used. One of the things about it I love it called Envoy, it's a way of sorting open folders and files that is great, especially on a 12 inch screen.
The next Macintosh operating system is going to be OS 10.4 and it's name is Tiger. It will start shipping in July I think.

I've got a 15" Powerbook and have been using it forever. I'm a Mac software developer during the day.

What's Envoy? How do you invoke it? Sounds cool and I could have missed it. Do you mean Exposè ? Which is to me the coolest thing about Panther.

They've haven't announced an official ship date for Tiger, but Steve promised it for the first half of the year. From a developer point of view there is some incredible image manipulation stuff built into Tiger.

That's it Exposè...Envoy is something else I've been playing with, an FTP app...sorry I loose track of names (BTW, Transmit is a much better FTP app than Envoy ). As to Tiger's ship date, the first half of the year ends the last day of June by my estimation....So we should have it by July. If they had it ready to ship they would have set a firm date, I love Apple OS but you should always wait till the .1 update before you install a new OS on your computer.
