...how do I allocate more space for the scratch?

[/ QUOTE ]I just checked, and it seems that you can't allocate more scratch space, only alternate scratch disks. Evidently it uses as much as it can on the first disk, then starts using the second one if the first one starts getting full. I'm using a Mac, but the Windoze version should have the same type of setup. Here are my Preferences settings:

Plugins & Scratch Disks - First one is the startup disk (internal), 2nd is my Maxtor external. I have over 60 GB free on my internal, so I doubt that it ever uses my external drive for scratch. I do a lot of database work for my "real job," so I defragment my drives about once a month. (I use a 3rd party utility for that.)

Memory & Image cache - I allocate 80% of my available RAM to Photoshop. The "available RAM" is the amount not being used when Photoshop launches. The system takes up some, but I make sure I shut down everything else before launching Photoshop. Eighty percent is a huge amount, but in my world I'm EITHER working in Photoshop OR I'm using my computer for everything else I do -- never both. If I had to have other programs running at the same time, I might limit Photoshop to, say, 50%.

Photoshop is a very memory- and processor-intensive program. I try to give it every break I can in using the computer's resources. Hope this info helps solve your problems. --Randy

P.S. Yes, HDD is "hard disk drive." Sorry for the jargon.

Randy, Thanks for the info. I ran a check on the computer and everything checked out.

How do I set it up to give the program more ram(like your 80%)?

I also dont run anything else when PS is running.
