Jayson,

Hi. I personally don't focus on ratios, I look to see where my light is falling either from the modeling light, from a test polaroid, change camera angle, or even sometimes just look at the image away from the camera when I pop the flash--or if using natural light, I look to see where the light falls...thanks..

Nice feedback Rick. Yes, it's that interaction of lights and shadows that define the image and make a diffrence, and in my opinion we're not Walmart when it comes to glamour, or just good editorial photography.

I also agree, there is no hard and fast rules, but I would mention that creativity is what sets others apart, and part of that creativity is by not only looking for form in an image, but where the light falls and even studying why it falls the way it does...thanks and thanks for being a part of the GG community and family...

Doug,

Lighting is about control, control of the light if you can, as I'd think you'd burn your hands if you tried to move the sun; control of the scene, control of the placement of the model, contral of the angle of the camera, control of the shoot in general...you've touched on an important factor of photography, not just lighting, and that is controling the image and it's content by knowledge, skill and creativity...thanks..

Tim,

Nice shot, I see and feel the eroticism in it, both by the light and the model's pose as well as facial expression. The warmth is felt by the window light, the warm wall tones and warm skin tones. This is one time where that "imaginary plane" of the width of the model parallel to the photographer's position is wide, but it works. Very well done.

On my image, yeah, I kinda had a little wash from the window light coming in from that corner...just playing around at my last Philly workshop...thanks...
