Presently I am still doing my backups to CDs. Problem is, with my 1 GB memory card, my Dell XP will only allow 700MB to be backed up. What do I do? -Jim

This is a trick question, right?

There's nothing you can do but use two CD's or don't fill up the card.

Personally, I don't see the need for such large cards. It takes far less time to change a CF card than it did to change a roll of film.

How's about an inexpensive refurbished laptop with a CD burner to take with you on shoots?

DVD Burner.. or backup to another hard drive..

I bought a 300GB Maxtor One-Touch II FireWire drive for $305.. It's certainly faster and you can set it up to backup specific folders on a schedule or the touch of a button..

A studio I work part time for just bought a LaCie 500GB external drive for about $450..

Another bonus of backing up to hard drives is that they take up very little physical space..

DVD burner - absolutely. Give you 4.6 gigs of space on each disk. Get an external one and take it on shoots. Or ... splurg and get a Blueray DVD burner with twice the storage space.
