IMHO: since everybody's Photoshop skills are different, power tools, like Actions and Plug-ins, can shorten the learning curve and speed up processing lots of images.

This image was shot in black and white with a Canon EOS 20D. The split toning was accomplished by a single click of the Sepia/Blue filter that's part of PhotoKit Color (www.pixelgenius.com.) plug-in. No selctions were made; I just applied the plug-in which places the different tones on different layers so the original image is untouched.
