Hello everyone I'm having trouble posting my images on my GG home page and need your assistance. I shoot with the 20D using Adobe RGB, most of my images are shot using AV and cloudy mode. I save the images to a SanDisk 256. I then transfer them to my PC using a SanDisk "ImageMate CF" via a USB in PS7. I open the image and use Adobe 1998 color space for working, I resize the image to 183 by 275 (max I can use), and 72 dpi. I then convert the image to profile sRGB 1EC61966-2.1 and then save for web, my conpression is usually around 70. Is there anything else I'm missing because I just can't get the snap/clearity into my post that I see many of you are getting. What am I doing wrong?

I just looked at your portfolio. First off the images are a little small. Try sizing the long side to 400 pixels. Also it looks like you need some unsharp mask after you resize your images. Are you shooting in jpeg mode? What are the camera settings?

Not that I think I am an expert on this topic but the image should look as sharp before you load it as it does after you load it to the GG portfolio.

Mark, since I'm a "Basic" member, my images can't exceed 275 width, and 275 height. As far the camera settings:

1) JPEG Large Fine
2) Color Temp 5200K
3) Color Space Adobe RGB
4) Parameters 2
5) No custom functions set
6) I usually shoot AV (2.8) in Cloudy Mode
7) Center Weight Metering

Mike,
Thats a good point. Just uploading to your portfolio should not change anything. Ray, are your images looking soft to you before you upload them? Also I don't know what lens your using, but you indicate that your shooting mostly at f 2.8. With most consumer grade lenses that is usually wide open. The majority of lenses out there are not their sharpest when wide open. You might try stoping down a little. Say around 5.6 or 8 and see how that looks.

Mark, I shoot with the Canon 70-200 (2.8, non-IS). The images in the Camera look great.

I have a freebie gallery too. When you resize your pix down to 275 on the wide side....it aint a whole lot of clarity there. I have to apply a slight unsharp mask when I reduce pix to that size. Maybe that would help.

Ray,
Your going to find that you can't really tell too much about what you really have by looking at the images on the LCD of the camera. After awhile you'll learn to gauge exposure, when you learn to use the history gram this becomes much easier. But as far as sharpness and focus are concerned, the LCD on the camera is just too small to really tell much. Of course I'm looking at mine with 44 year old eyes that don't work as well as they used to!

Could my problem be an exposure issue?

One thing you said that you do bothers me. You said you do a (save for web) If i remember that is only one option you can use in PS. And that is the one option you should never use. It takes to much away from the file and your pictures will look real bad. Try this..

1. Open image in PS
2. Resize image
3. Ajust color and anything else
4. Use the ( save as ) option to save your image. choose the highest quality you can and it should look good.
