this is the last time I'm goin' to 'spain this and there will be a test after.
1. Move all subject files to empty folder. Insure all files are of the same type. ie. PSD in this case.
2. Create action following instructions found in help files.
3. Start recording and perform action EXACTLY as you want the batch process to perform it. This includes opening the file. opening “save as dialog choosing jpeg and designating where you wish to save file. Create a new folder so that the new file will not be in the same folder as originals. Save, select output file options. click OK. Close file. stop recording.
Remove either the original file you used to create the action or the file it created as this might caused the batch action to choke before you even get started. There is no need to flatten PSD files as the save to Jpeg does this for you and you will revert back to the original PSD file once the "save as" has been performed.
4. Go to File>automate>batch
If play dialog does not show the action you just created then select it.
source: Folder
Choose: select the folder with all your files.
Check: override Action “Open Commands.
Destination: Folder
Choose: the destination folder
Check override action “save as Commands
If you want to rename the files you get to figure out that by your self.
click OK
Go get favorite bev and sit back and watch the fun.

FIRST... let me thank you ALL for taking the time to save my worthless bacon. I went with the suggestion to download the trial version of Paint Shop Pro. I gotta tell ya, it worked SO well, I may buy the full version JUST for that one function! Well, maybe not, but it worked perfectly. I'll get to bed much earlier now .

There are several non-PS programs that do this kind of stuff, but for years I've use one called Thumbs Plus that you can download for $50 for the lite version (http://www.cerious.com/) but is for PC only. It makes Thumbnail galleries, webpages, conversions, all sorts of stuff much faster than PS (faster meaning the actual process, not just the learning curve). Your problem is a snap. All you'd have to do is select "Batch" and follow the prompts to save the file as a JPG, and put it in a different folder. It will flatten PSD files in the process (I just tested it, and that's using version 4.5, they have version 7 available now).
